Jennifer Bartlett

Self-Portrait after Lisa Jarnot

one boy’s small hand

the absence of snow

an inherent grammar

a light outside the window
illuminating our place in this world

of swimming pools and their vastness

all of the birds in new jersey

a mother who is good with numbers
a father who is good with poetry

this crooked body this
misunderstanding of our common language

boys who made me lose the blues
and then my eyesight

the ocean and its variations

a lovely husband
an argument over sex over juice boxes
over division of labor over success over
the cats ‘because you wanted them’

this painful slow body
