SUGGESTIONS FOR THE FIRST HUNDRED DAYS

THE PHANTOM PILOT

the beer has surely been spotted

Tease the judge into silence and step back
there is no danger.  From the courthouse roof
we’d toss them but the poem grew up.
Ninety percent of the time they
glide to safety.  An apothecary defends
with God as the witness
dropping poems from a plane
on Fridays and Saturdays.
Voters saw the skit in the eighties:
“I thought they could fly.”

NOTES FOR THE BLACKBERRY (R.I.P. TV)

Know how to adapt
never lose composure.
Caution use it, don’t abuse it
think with the few, speak with the many.
Be in nature’s good graces quit
while fortune is smiling.

Know quality leave
things on the side.
Know unfortunates shun them
know the fortunate to befriend them.
Find nature’s weak spot
one born in the right century.

Vary the procedure
have intelligent support.
Reality and manner
nature and art, material and craft.
Deal with natures from whom you can learn belie
your national defects.

Avoid outdoing your superior
the height of perfection.
Make nature depend on you
knowledge and courage
in your affairs, create suspense.

HALITOSIS 2016

Breathing sustains a voice.  Lots of breathing.
Wheeze of the voice to your condition.  Declarative.
Your other forms whole and still.  Descriptive.
How mouths treat your peace.  Won’t you emerge
in the sweet breath of function.

POEM

touch the meat
Don’t let the dirt

can handle three a day but
Stopping it from spreading
logistical headaches
Disposal of the carcass

beyond quarantine zones
A veritable problem
out of control
Unfit consumption and breeding

in the dirt
Population exploding
in contaminated areas
Unchecked disaster flourishes

ON THE CORONATION OF DONALD TRUMP

Forgetting of pens
with dark ink to be plucked
from sunny paper

Early evening is bolted
to this oak here hangs
a bushel of bassinets

Skies are radiating from the lake like
each early arrival
to their open seats
